Lowender Celtic Festival
At the end of October 2024 the Fèis Rois Ceilidh Trail will be heading to Cornwall for the Lowender Celtic Festival where they will help kick off the festivities on the Friday evening with the Thriving Traditions concert, an event shining the light on young musicians. Our Ceilidh Trail will be the special guests alongside young talent from Cornwall. There will also be a ceilidh that night, blending Cornish and Scottish traditions and our young musicians will also take part in a tune swap and various sessions over the weekend, making it a fantastic opportunity for them to explore new musical traditions and meet other young musicians.
Another exciting collaborative performance taking place during the festival is Yeth ha Tir / Language and Land Concert; a project exploring minority language song and its deep connection to the natural world, showcasing how language can express the essence of the landscapes that inspire us. Former Fèis Rois Ceilidh Trail participant, Mischa Macpherson will represent Scotland and work with singer, Julgi Stalte from Latvia, and three Cornish singers, Laurie Huggett, Annie Baylis and Tricia Salt.
Sidmouth Folk Festival
We have collaborated with Sidmouth Folk Festival for more than a decade. Our Ceilidh Trail is invited to perform at the summer festival and you can watch some of our 2023 Ceilidh Trail performances below.
Cambridge Folk Festival
Cambridge Folk Festival is one of the longest running folk festivals in the world. Held each year since 1965 it attracts around fourteen thousand people, many of whom return year after year.
The festival is renowned for its unique atmosphere and its eclectic mix of music; the best traditional folk artists from the UK and Ireland rub shoulders with cutting edge contemporary acts, the finest American country, blues and roots artists, acclaimed singer-songwriters, famous names and world music stars.
A big part of the festival’s ethos is to celebrate and nurture emerging talent and in 2011 the festival created a dedicated stage, The Den, to provide a platform for artists under 30 years old to progress their music careers. The Hub is another special area for young musicians to take part in workshops, sessions and perform.
Each year, young musicians from Fèis Rois travel to perform at the Festival and take part in workshops, collaborations and performances. In 2018 we celebrated 10 years of cultural exchange with the festival.
