The Seer

In 2016 as part of our 30th anniversary celebrations, we commissioned Lauren MacColl to write a new suite of music inspired by the life and prophecies of The Brahan Seer. Coinneach Odhar (The Brahan Seer) was a 17th Century prophet who spent much of his life in Easter Ross and the inspiration for the music is drawn from stories from Lauren’s childhood and from her later research.

The music that Lauren has composed here is utterly spell-binding and reflects her deep connection to Ross-shire and the Highlands. Like Lauren, many of the musicians featured on the recording are former participants of Fèis Rois who continue to inspire future generations of young musicians.

The Seer was performed for the first time at Celtic Connections in January 2017 and the album was recorded at The Stables, Cromarty in April 2017. It was subsequently launched at two performances as part of Blas Festival in September 2017.
