Vietnam Collaboration
We had a wonderful week with our visiting musicians from Vietnam on a knowledge exchange visit to Scotland from 19 – 26 January 2026. This exchange previously took the Fèis Rois team to Ho Chi Minh City in June 2025, and we were delighted to welcome Bùi Văn Tân, Nguyễn Quang Hưng and Nguyễn Thị Hải Phượng to Scotland.
During the trip, the three musicians were invited to collaborate with Mairearad Green and Mike Vass, as well as visiting Fèis Rois classes and workshops, and the National Piping Centre, the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and Celtic Connections. We also had an amazing Ceilidh and Concert at Ardross Hall.
Residency 2024
With support from the British Council and Creative Scotland, Fèis Rois collaborated with Glasgow International Jazz Festival to bring Vietnamese and Scottish musicians together for a residency in the Highlands in June 2024, including three incredible concerts in Resolis, Ullapool and Glasgow.
In October 2023, Fèis Rois Chief Executive, Fiona Dalgetty, and Jill Roger, Director of Glasgow International Jazz Festival were part of a British Council delegation visiting Vietnam with the purpose of building connections and exploring the potential for exchange and collaboration beyond the focus of the 2023 British Council UK – Vietnam season.
Fiona and Jill met many inspirational musicians, artists, and creative facilitators, and they worked together to develop an opportunity to bring Scottish and Vietnamese folk and jazz musicians together to share music and ideas in the Highlands before performing at venues in the Black Isle, Ullapool, and Glasgow.
Maryburgh musician, Ali Levack, winner of 2020 BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician of the Year and a former Fèis Rois participant, joined percussionist Tom Bancroft and saxophonist, Sue McKenzie during the residency which also welcomed Vietnamese band, Đàn Đó, and saxophonist Quyền Thiện Đắc.
